Walkabout Becomes Wave Soon

Broadcast Newsroom Computing will as promised give a lot of thanks to the Walt Disney Company and ABC News for accepting BNC parent Rowe and Company, LLC as a vendor.  We also have some organizational news.

Firstly, BNC raves about genuine new thinking out of Sydney, Australia from Jens and Lars Rasmussen, creators of Google Maps.  Their latest project and the buzz in cloud computing is Google Wave.  The best executive explanation of Google Wave is at Wikipedia where the project in development is described as "a personal communication and collaboration tool."

TechCrunch reports on the meeting where Google Wave was revealed to developers.   Wave proposes simple, user friendly communications and collaboration across geographic and language barriers in real time.  Get the full presentation from  Google’s YouTube video on Wave.  It’s lengthy and a search on YouTube will bring all kinds of shorts on the subject announced late in May.

The Rasmussen brothers explain their latest collaboration in a preview statement on development of Wave.3573459849_7f5f4217a4

The brothers say they wish to answer three questions with Google’s open source Web initiative.

  • Why do we have to live with divides between different types of communication — email versus chat, or conversations versus documents?
  • Could a single communications model span all or most of the systems in use on the web today, in one smooth continuum? How simple could we make it?
  • What if we tried designing a communications system that took advantage of computers’ current abilities, rather than imitating non-electronic forms?

There is a lot of excitement around Wave and Ben Par has created what he calls the Google Wave: Complete Guide in a mash up at mashable.com

CNET reports information technology may refuse to fully embrace Google Wave in enterprises because of economics and usual tardiness in adopting revolutionary technologies.

Google Wave is set to make a public debut before the year’s end.  What the initiative proposes for collaboration among newsrooms, bureaus, stringers and contractors warrants review.

Rowe and Company, LLC takes this opportunity and space to thank Walt Disney Company and ABC Television for choosing R&C as a vendor.  The trust of ABC and Walt Disney is most meaningful to what we wish to grow to a partnership in media technology advancement.

Toward progress and growth Rowe and Company announces the association of Dennis Glenn as Solutions Architect for R&C.  Dennis is an associate.  We are building our relationships with information technology professionals like Dennis and news professionals to offer services from lens to screen.

In six months of existence this is the first occasion Rowe and Company posts news of our development on Broadcast Newsroom Computing.  We hope you are interested and resistant to braggadocio.  Wish us well, please.
